Westchester County is located in the heart of the historic Hudson Valley in New York state. Located right outside of New York City, it covers 500 square miles and has a population of just under a million people. It has appeal to many residents for its close proximity to New York City, making it the perfect location for commuting and day trips to the city. The County is a blend of bustling cities, charming villages and picturesque close-knit towns as well as open spaces and beautiful parks. Westchester is made up of six cities, 19 towns and 20 villages. In 2020, Niche rated Westchester County number 1 out of 56 counties in New York State for, Best County for Families, County with the Best Public Schools and The Healthiest County to live in.
Westchester County is known for top-rated public schools and a high quality lifestyle. The County is home to a well educated workforce, Fortune 500 companies, competitive colleges and universities, non-profits, and cutting-edge research centers.
The average age of residents are 40.9 with a median household income of $94,811. The median property value in Westchester County is $560,800, and the homeownership rate is 60.6%. Most people in Westchester County commute by train or drive, and the average commute time is 33.9 minutes. The average car ownership in Westchester is 2 cars per household.
