Description

Located on Croton-on-Hudson's historic Hessian Hill are more than 20 acres of wetlands, woods, trails and boardwalks. In 1991 the land was donated to the Village of Croton for conservation and education purposes. At the heart was an endangered wetland habitat which has been preserved by the Croton Arboretum and Sanctuary Inc., an all-volunteer, nonforprofit organization. The preserve was named to honor civic activist and fundraiser Jane E. Lytle. The Croton Arboretum works to promote ecological literacy and environmental education programs in wetland restoration, wildlife habitat enhancement and water quality monitoring. The Arboretum is a great place for walks, bird watching, amazing Hudson views and access to more challenging trails. Open from dusk to dawn year round. When there is snow the gate may be locked. You may walk but stay off the golf club property. The entrance is located at 10 Fox Road off of Loundsbury. Click on the Arboretum website above to access the trail map and brochure created by the Croton Lions Club or to find out more about donating to this cause.
