It’s apple season in the Hudson Valley!

Nothing kicks off fall festivities quite like a weekend of apple picking.

While there’s no shortage of family owned and operated orchards in our area, there’s always a few that shine a little brighter. Apple picking is so much more than gathering up a few apples in a basket. The best orchards on our list feature live music, hayrides, games and everything in between.

So hop on board as we highlight some of the best apple picking picks in Croton and beyond!

Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm

September 2nd kicks off the Wilkens Farm apple picking season in Yorktown Heights. When you check in, you can gather your bags and baskets and sign out some picking poles to reach those perfect apples way out of reach. You and your family can hop on a hayride to the orchard, making it so much easier to haul back your bushels to their farmer’s market for checkout.

They also have an amazing bakery, country market and even a winery to explore on your apple adventure!

Stuart’s Farm

September 6th begins apple season at Stuart’s Farm in Granite Springs. This adorable family farm boasts a ton of apple varieties and a farmer’s market to die for. Pack a picnic lunch and soak in the last of the summer’s sunshine with some freshly baked treats from their bakery. After all, what day of apple picking would be complete without a few helpings of hot, fluffy apple cider donuts?

Harvest Moon Farm

Apple picking season is officially here at Harvest Moon Farm in North Salem. While they politely ask to keep your pets and picnic baskets at home, they have tons of activities to enjoy. Weekends at Harvest Moon you’ll find hayrides, food and craft vendors, bounce houses, farm animals and more. Each weekend this farm is a fall celebration with a little something for everyone.

Festivals at Barton Orchards

One of the Hudson Valley’s largest and most popular orchards begins their exciting fall season this September. Barton Orchards has a large farmer’s market, hundreds of apple trees, dining area, play area for kids and more. Enjoy hayrides through the orchard and even a large petting zoo. Barton Orchards also has an impressive selection of hard ciders and a tasting room, some they make on premises.

The season is kicking off with several September festivals that will bring special events and activities to the farm.

September 9th: $5 Family Fun Festival

September 16th & 17th Apple Festival

September 23rd & 24th Country Festival

September 30th & October 1st Pumpkin Festival

Fishkill Farms

Fishkill Farms has some of the most stunning views of the Hudson Valley combined with a great selection of pick your own produce. Apple weekends here have hayrides to enjoy, a selection of grilled specialties for lunch and a charming farmer’s market complete with pressed ciders and apple cider donuts that you won’t be able to put down. The farm has an apple cider tasting tent where guests can sample and take home amazing varieties of hard cider.

Apple picking season is one of the most celebrated times of the year in the Hudson Valley.

As the days get chillier we’re looking forward to welcoming fall with open arms and full bushels of incredible New York grown apples. This is only the beginning of the autumn fun bustling in the Croton-on-Hudson area.
