Did you know that:

  • The Croton Free Library was housed in the Municipal Building from 1940 to 1965
  • Constable Milton Blinker was named a police officer in 1898 with no pay
  • That in 1892, three of the fire department’s companies were formed
  • That Carrie E. Tompkins once lived in the building which many years later became Gallagher’s Bar
  • The contractors for the Croton Dam built 12 saloons and 3 houses of ill repute for the worker’s use
  • Our Savior Lutheran Church was build in 1939

The Croton-on-Hudson Historical Society was formed in 1972 and is chartered by the New York State Board of Regents. The primary mission of the organization is the collection and preservation of Croton-on-Hudson historical materials and making them available to the public.
