Laurie Weisz - Suburban Guides 04
Laurie Weisz is the owner and CEO of Suburban Guides, Inc. which is the company that produces town websites in Westchester County starting with the Westchester hub, SuburbanGuides.com. From there branching out into town sites like, CrotonGuiides.com, CortlandtGuides.com, and PeekskillGuides.com that not only highlight the uniqueness of each town but provide online business directories and consumer advertising for the businesses to connect with their communities. In addition to directories and advertisement for businesses these websites offer information about events, parks, schools, municipalities, clubs, specials, faith and anything else that makes these towns specials. Her goal is to continue to add towns and offer opportunities to local residents, “Town Publishers” to earn money while representing their town.
Laurie grew up in Northern Westchester where she lived with her mom and dad, sister and two brothers. After graduating high school, she left the area to attend college which led to a career in fashion which enabled her to travel the country and to Europe. She had the opportunity to live in states around the country while ultimately enjoying a career in writing and entertainment. After twenty years, Laurie eventually got married and moved back to Westchester County and to the area she loved so much to raise her family.
Upon return, she felt somewhat out of touch with what was happening in her community. That is when she created a flyer for moms that shared information about events in the town which included small ads from local businesses. This flyer for moms turned into a 64-page, free monthly magazine for the entire community known as Mom Offers More. The MOM magazine had a circulation of approximately 10,000 covering the area of Northern Westchester County.
Laurie cultivated a following for community events, articles from local writers, business news and special sales. She realized that going online was the next natural progression to grow her business, and by working with others with similar ideas she ended up developing SuburbanGuides.com
"My experience living around the country has heightened my love for the towns and villages in Westchester County. Whether you always lived here, are new to the area, or grew up here and came back to raise your children, this love for the community is what is shared. Westchester is more than a county filled with NYC commuting towns. It's a place to call home where you have an opportunity to live and raise your family in unique supportive neighborhoods surrounded by beauty and culture with great schools"
